Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from author Simon James Green. He shared with us that all of his books share a common theme – laughter and fun. Within our Diversity and Equality Curriculum, through the use of storybooks, we teach children about the Equality Act 2010, the protected characteristics within this and British Values. We were very excited, to be able to complement this learning, with Simon’s visit. He is well known for wanting to represent the LGBTQ+ community in children and young adult fiction. Throughout his time with the children there was so much laughter and fun! Children joined in with sharing the synopsis of Life of Riley, helped to act out an extract from Sleep Over Take-Over and even got to learn a bit about the process of writing a book and working with an illustrator. Before the children were able to get books they had purchased signed, Simon made sure to make time for a Q & A. The children had clearly thoroughly enjoyed his visit and had some thoughtful questions.
